Festive Wreaths

Step-by-Step Wreath Making with Textured Florals and Foliage

Please take a moment to watch our brief wreath-making tutorial! If you’ve attended one of our workshops before, this will be a short refresher of our more in-depth process. And if it’s your first time trying a DIY wreath, we’re excited for you to dive in! We have kept the video as short as possible to avoid any confusion and hopefully make it easy to follow along. You can use our foliage and tools to start you off or add your own ideas and elements—whatever you choose, have fun, explore your creativity, and enjoy the process!

Preparation:

Before you begin, gather the following supplies: a hot glue gun or glue, scissors or secateurs, and any additional decorative items you’d like to incorporate. Make sure your workspace is tidy and ready to start.

Step 1: Select and Plan Your Materials

Start by sorting through your provided assortment of foliage, decorations, and other materials. Take a moment to visualise your design—decide what you’d like to use and how you want your wreath to look. Remember, there’s no right or wrong way, so embrace your creativity!

Step 2: Begin with the Base

Lay down the larger pieces of foliage to create the base layer of your wreath. Arrange them evenly across one side or distribute them as you prefer. If you’re aiming for a symmetrical design, save some similar pieces for the other side to balance the look.

Step 3: Secure the Base Layer

Using the florist wire provided, begin securing your foliage. Wrap the wire around the wreath’s frame and the base of the foliage, tightening it as you go. Twist the wire at the back of the wreath to hold it firmly in place. You don’t need to cut the wire—just keep wrapping as you add more elements—but feel free to trim it if you prefer shorter sections.

Step 4: Build Up Layers

Continue layering your foliage, piece by piece, securing each layer tightly with the florist wire. Take your time to arrange the elements in a way that feels natural and suits your vision. If florist wire isn’t your style, alternatives like twine or zip ties can work just as well—choose what feels best for you. We have provided florist wire and twine for you in our kits.

Step 5: Complete the Wreath Base

Work your way around the wreath, layering and securing the foliage until you’re happy with the overall look. Whether you go for a lush, full wreath or a minimalist style, remember that it’s your creation—let your personality shine through!

Step 6: Add a Ribbon or Hanging Feature (Optional)

If you’d like to hang your wreath, thread a ribbon, twine, or other material through the top of the frame. Tie it securely to create a loop or hot glue it together. Alternatively, craft a bow with ribbon and attach it as a decorative element using hot glue. This step is entirely optional and can be adapted based on how you plan to display your wreath.

Step 7: Embellish with Personal Touches

Use your hot glue gun or adhesive to attach decorative elements like pinecones, flowers, citrus slices, twigs, or anything else that inspires you. This is your chance to make the wreath uniquely yours—play with textures, colours, and shapes until it feels right.

Whether you hang it on your door, give it as a gift, or use it as a centrepiece, your creation is sure to impress! We hope you have fun and enjoy the process!

Happy wreath-making! 🌿
